Where in the world are you now?
February 9th, 2009Well. A lot has happened in three months. Who would have thought? I do want to start writing again, so I might as well start it off with a general-life update.
The last few months have been crazy and that is probably the reason I have not blogged since Africa. I have been living with my good friends Sarah and Skylar, who so graciously offered me their office in their apartment as my home til I got on my feet. This was overwhelmingly generous, but not that unexpected since they are awesome.
The last few months have been about searching. Searching for a place to live, a place to work, and looking for what was just around the bend. At the time, it seemed so daunting, and discouraging…but a few months later I can see how silly I am, and of course, everything has come together wonderfully.
I found a job I really love. I’m working as a doctor’s assistant at a chiropractic clinic. Random? Yes, maybe. But it is turning out to be a great experience, with lots of room for learning. I am the only employee, so well, I get to do pretty much everything, except well, being the doctor. The plan is to return to school September 2010, so until then I am in a job that I can really enjoy. The practice is really set up around alternative medicine, and the doctor is a practitioner of Network Spinal Analysis, which is nothing like what you think when you think of traditional chiropractic. Ask anyone, I’m becoming a strong spokesperson for this type of care.
The hours also give me time to pursue my interest in writing. I’m looking to use the next year to really pin-point my focus, and build a portfolio so that next fall I will be off to start the next part of my education. Currently, my focus is really directed towards Broadcast Journalism or Publishing. However, being out of school and working a regular job is really opening my eyes to my interests and what I want out of life, so I’m definitely open to exploring a couple different options.
Yesterday I moved into an apartment. It is a general store built in 1918 that was recently converted into an apartment. I love it. It has all the old-school charm, with the luxury of a newly built apartment. Did I mention I love it? Well, I do. Although last night I thought about how much I will miss living with Sarah and Skylar. They are awesome. Did I mention that?
Once upon a time in first year of university Sarah said, “Our husbands are going to have to be good friends, cause I think we’ll probably be best roommates for life.” Five years later it seems to be true.
Well turns out our husbands will be good friends, which brings me to the final bit of news. I am also enaged. Keith and I will be getting married this coming October, and will be setting up shop in that little general store I mentioned.
So now I get to be busy with wedding things, which are at times stressful, but mostly really fun.
Well, there it is. That’s the general story of the last few months.
